Miscellaneous Information
William was born on 29 March 1910 at Finch, Ontario. His father was born at Finch and was deceased by the time of William's enlistment. His mother was born at Winchester. The schools he attended were S.S#7 at Finch 1916-1924 followed by Public School, Finch High 1924- 1930 and Ottawa Normal school, Ottawa 1930-1931. (Teachers' course). The sports he enjoyed were bowling, softball, badminton and boxing. William was then to be found teaching at Separate School Board, Ottawa 1931-1936. He then spent the years 1936 to 1938 farming. Between 1938- 1939 he was working in some Gold mines. He then returned to teaching at Separate School Board, Kirkland Lake until enlisting on 30 June 1941. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 30 April 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC on 13 May 1942 then continued to 6 (P) AFU 4 August 1942, 22 OTU 15 September 1942, 1659 CU 4 January 1943 and 405 Squadron on 22 February 1943. Sadly William was then to lose his life on 5 April 1943 |
